Licensing Intentions.

The full set of resources will be released under a non-commercial share-alike Creative Commons license, allowing for personal remixing, use in schools and for continuing the conversation about our shared past.

The book’s text will be released under a separate commercial share-alike Creative Commons license, to respect the work of the artists involved.

Additional and In-Kind Funding.

For transparency, the budget of this campaign covers the costs of creating this book and providing your rewards.

These funds will make us eligible for additional in-kind funding from institutions that can provide academic support. By applying for in-kind funding, we drastically reduce the amount of money we’d need to raise from this Kickstarter. We have contingencies planned in case we do not receive this additional funding!

Pictish Patrons.

For our highest tier, the Pictish Patron, backers will be thanked in the credits section of the book.

We reserve the right not to print a name if doing so would violate our core values of innovation, collaboration and inclusion; for example, a backer’s provided name is an inappropriate dog whistle.

We don’t foresee this being a problem but prefer to be transparent about this policy!

Retail.

We will be selling this book wholesale once it is completed. However, for this Kickstarter, we don’t have a special retail tier. We will be contacting distributors in countries outside of the UK when the time is right.

If you’re a retailer interested in stocking Dungeons on a Dime books, email [email protected] for more information!

Teaching and Curriculum.

Carved in Stone is a TTRPG resource rather than a textbook or teaching guide, but it can be used support learning and reading for enjoyment for ages 12+.

In developing the project, we have been mindful of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (CfE), particularly the Social Studies topic “People, past events, and societies.”The final product will include citations so that interested learners can find more information.

Outside of the classroom, we hope that Carved in Stone will be used in school clubs and other settings where young players can explore the Pictish world.

Estimated Shipping & VAT

It is difficult to know what the price of shipping from Scotland will be in a years time; there are many factors that could affect the project (Brexit, IndyRef Scotland, new EU trading laws, etc).

That said, we plan to use Royal Mail (or Scotland’s equivalent) when it comes time to fulfil in November 2022.

We hope to have some kind of fulfilment deal in place with both US and Europe based companies, hopefully reducing the cost of shipping.

Roughly, these will be the most expensive shipping costs could be:

Postcards UK - £2 EU - £4-6 + local VAT and Import Fees US & Rest of the World - £5-11

Books UK - £4 EU - £7-11 + local VAT and Import Fees US & Rest of the World - £14-21

VAT Inside the UK, books are VAT0, meaning there’s no tax on buying or producing them. Outside of the UK is another matter. Right now, backers in the EU have to pay import fees on all packages from the UK, with their own local tax rates on top. These rates are different for each country, so there’s no easy way to calculate them. If we’re able to partner with a distributor inside the EU, these fees won’t apply. However as much as we want that to happen, it isn’t a certainty.

What's in the Antiquarian's Hoard?

The books will be a mix of hardback and paperback, with a few little extras thrown in. We estimate there will be 5 in each trove, and they are ‘full’ size, not individual papers or essays.

Some will be introductions to the time period and handy summaries of the latest thinking (books like The King in the North and Picts, Gaels and Scots) and a others will cover in-depth analysis and explorations of individual sites (books like From Pictland to Alba, Portmahomack: Monastery of the Picts, Inchmarnock and Darkness Visible)

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
